JWatcher - VIdeo is a companion application to JWatcher that enables researchers to score behavior directly from digital video. Developed by the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Los Angeles, it supports accurate, time-stamped logging of behavioral events and states using customizable ethograms. With keyboard-driven scoring and intuitive playback controls—including pause, slow motion, and frame stepping—you can capture latencies, durations, frequencies, and sequences without leaving the video window. Observations integrate seamlessly with JWatcher for time-budget and summary analyses and can be exported in common formats for use in R, Excel, or other statistical tools. Designed for behavioral ecologists, ethologists, and students, JWatcher - Video streamlines lab and field workflows and supports transparent, replicable, observer-based behavioral coding.
